You have to visit Hurricane Grill – especially if it’s a Wednesday.
You already missed out though. Last night was the Bay Meadows’ store 1-year anniversary. Do you know what that means? It means a free app and extra cheery servers — ooo and double prizes for trivia. And when you’re in the mood for starchy, salty, cheese-covered deliciousness, this is the perfect snack. We got free tachos yesterday. Tachos are tater tot nachos. Aka, melted cheese, nacho sauce, jalapenos, ground beef and kidney beans poured over a generous serving of tater tots. It was decadent.
Our server was fantastic. She hooked us up with Tachos for every two people in the group. And she was totally attentive to my pal’s diet coke needs and our other drink and food wants. All the servers there come with personality. Whether it’s flashy earrings or a headband or an “I’ll get that for you, dear”, it will be a memorable dining experience.
Wednesday is trivia night, and while they don’t have the music contest for beer that Lynch’s used to have, it’s a pretty legit host and some serious competition. Brush up on your movie knowledge, geography and world leaders if you’re hoping to place.
The decor is a lot of fun too. It’s a surfer/sports bar/beach vibe. The inside has a bit of a tiki bar by the ocean feel with an indoor wooden awning. I’ve been exploring the menu and getting a strong feel for the place with weekly trivia. My friend goes for the beer buckets and is usually nice enough to share. They have decent drink specials and the usual craft beer list that has become popular of late. The menu ranges from burgers and wings to coconut shrimp and caribbean jerk chicken. They have large portions and really tasty broccoli sides (for when you decide to go healthy and skip fries). My other friends recommend the cuban sandwich and fish tacos. I enjoyed the burger, the steak was ok, the shrimp could have used a bit more old bay and the wings have lots of meat on them. All-in-all it’s a neat place that gets pretty full on trivia nights. In a slightly sleepy Publix shopping center, you might expect a vacant burger joint, but this place stays bumbling and even seems to have some bar regulars.
When you want to watch a sports game, try some tiki bar Hawaiian grill eats and venture out beyond the buffalo wild wings or chili’s norm, this is a spot you will definitely enjoy.
