Clark’s Fish Camp

by Alanna_Salussolia December 12, 2016 2 Comments

Are you looking for a taste of the rustic, backwood, homestyle dinner on the river life? Clark’s Fish Camp is a unique Jacksonville spot for your next family outing. You’ll get there through winding roads through country feeling neighborhoods which will take you to the river. The entrance to the place is a wooden dock covered with lights. The first thing you will notice is a wall covered with bass carvings. The fascinating workmanship has some simple side fish views and other open mouth front on depictions which look like the fish is leaping right toward you. There is a large water tank inside, but we didn’t see any animals present.

However, the place is FULL of taxidermy animals. All types of creatures – a giraffe, rhino, antelope, beaver cover the ceiling. It will delight or terrorize your children. Most of the animals are from zoos, not hunting prizes.

If you’re a fisherman’s wife, you might enjoy the walls lined with bass plates. The decor here is ful of adventure. It’s like going to a homemade version of Disney’s animal kingdom. There is a bar, tons of seating and benches and booths galore. You can sit outside on the water and look at the lilypad covered surface all around.

The menu is enormous. I tried the crab legs ($8.99 for a ½ pound!). They came in a metal pot with drawn butter and lemons on the side. I dug in for a delicious feet and fun shell-breaking activity.

We tried the smoked fish dish, which was yummy though mild on the smoky taste. It came with basic saltines, but it was a nice appetizer. My friend got the ahi tuna salad which came with a huge fish but didn’t look quite as delectable as the snow cab.

Risk taking meat eaters can spring for some of their wilder offerings like antelope, frog legs, eel, quail, llamas, ostrich or kangaroo. They have a full liquor bar and some country desserts if you’re still hungry at the end.
