We called Deerwood Diner around 9:00 am to see if they were opened. They told us they certainly were and to come on in! We couldn’t say no to that invitation.

First Quasi Mother’s Day Meal

We had our Mother’s Day Brunch at the re-opened Deerwood Diner on Southside. Hurray for a special breakfast out at a funky diner for this excited mommy-to-be.

I needed pancakes in my life

Social Distancing

As part of covid precautions, Deerwood Diner has added more outside seatings and spread out the indoor dining. We were able to snag a plush booth in the back and get cozy for a celebratory meal.

We were enthusiastically greeted by every employee we encountered! They took our drink orders, and before we knew it we had ice waters and piping hot coffees in spiffy mugs ready to sip.

What’s for Breakfast?

Breakfast for Two

Michael usually gets the Pattymelt, but today he ordered steak and eggs. (According to a radio program we heard today, many mothers order that on this fine holiday).

I ordered the eggs Benedict and a side of dollar pancakes. The sweet and the salty! We both got hash browns.

Morning Chatter

Michael and I returned to restaurant chatter, again something we have missed during quarantine locked down.

Country fried steak

When Michael finished his steak, I munched on the leftover sausage gravy!

The light convo out in public is such a nice change of pace. Plus there is lots of fun 50’s memorabilia on the walls to discuss. Like do they have an I love Lucy pic we went tell our future kiddo about?

Our food arrived promptly and we gobbled it down. What a great way to ease our way back into the Jacksonville community that’s right outside our doors.

Bye for now Deerwood!
