Lately I’ve had a sugary cakey donut craving that just won’t quit. Like Homer Simpson, I wake up in the AM and hear the call of the coffee machine truly muffled by the call for DONUTS.

It was perfect timing to get an invitation to a Yelp Elite event at The Donut Expirement in Saint Augustine. Michael and I kicked off our weekend by loading the baby and pups into a car for a little morning adventure with a sweet destination.

The Donut Expirement – St. Augustine

117 King St, St. Augustine, FL 32084 904-342-2234

Our scenic trip down i-95 to St. Augustine went by quickly. The little donut shop was easy to find and, remarkably, provided parking right next to the store. Very unusual as this touristy area typically requires paying to park and then hiking half a mile to visit your restaurant of choice.

There was a cute seating area outside, which was perfect for letting the dogs sniff around while we munched on our goodies.

The Periodic Table of Donuts

Right in line are all the fixings. Your could see all of your breakfast options in the Periodic Table of Donuts that was chalked on the wall. There were cookie crumbles, candybar peices, cereal, fruit and an assortment of other sweets.

The shop had little sushi style tables to fill out with your order. All of the donuts are made with the same cake-like batter. You could see the little assembly line machine where they make the fresh donuts.

It smelled amazing.

Chocolate Vs Fruit

You get to choose the icing, the crumbles and the drizzle. So many combination options!

Michael went for the dessert style option with oreo crumbles and peanut butter drizzle. I went for lemon icing, fruity pebbles and rasberry drizzle. Sweet and crunchy.

We sampled eachother’s choices and decided to trade. They were both pretty good, so it was a win-win.

The donuts are a bit small. But they pack so much sweet flavor, one is really the perfect snack. You might want to have a healthy breakfast meal also, depending on your morning appetite.

The pups were jealous and really wanted to try our treats. We fought them off and gave them their own dog treats.

The Cupcake Expirement?

They sell coffee too. We tried the brewed coffee and it wasn’t my favorite. But the bitter blandness did make the donut bites even better. You know how super sweet dessert pairs with espresso? It was like that.

Really, if you think of these as cupcakes, it might be more accurate. I think the donut expirement is whether or not you can disguise cupcakes as donuts. The answer is a yummy YES.
