Where to get food:

  • Nourishment Network – Lutheran Social Services Serves: Jacksonville (Serving: Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Putnam, Nassau & St. Johns Counties) Individuals can receive food once every month and must be Duval County residents
  • Jewish Family & Community Services – Serves the entire Jacksonville community. Thanks to donations of non-perishable food items and monetary contributions from a concerned community, JFCS provides nutritious emergency groceries to those experiencing difficult times

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

-James 1:27 ESV

HUNGER MATTERS.

Hunger is a very real and present need that many Floridians face on a daily basis. Nothing truly prepares someone for financial crisis. Some people go through a traumatic event that leaves them unable to handle weekly groceries. Others operate at an income level that makes getting food on a daily basis a battle. Physical and mental health needs can exacerbate situations where providing for the family becomes difficult.

Food deserts – areas where food resources are not easily accessible – also make getting nourishment and nutrition a geographical hurdle.

Struggling with hunger can be a painful, scary and constant difficulty that people in our community experience regularly.

What is a Food Desert?

“A food desert is any urban area in which at least 33 percent of the residents live a mile or more from a grocery store, according to Duval County Medical Society President Sunil Joshi. ‘Jacksonville itself has about 42 deserts and approximately 40% of them are in the Northwest Quadrant,’ he said .”
