Chow Down Alley

Did you ever want to eat somewhere where a soup nazi might dish out bowls of piping hot tasty soup, then send you packing in the street of NYC one day? Ok, so I’m a little bit nuts about Seinfeld. They spend hours in their corner diner and Kramer just never ever seems to move…

Did you ever want to eat somewhere where a soup nazi might dish out bowls of piping hot tasty soup, then send you packing in the street of NYC one day? Ok, so I’m a little bit nuts about Seinfeld. They spend hours in their corner diner and Kramer just never ever seems to move like a normal human. It’s wonderful.

Anyway, more than that, I love a good work lunch. Especially after hours where my brain starts to fuse with laptop keys and I begin to wonder if I have any impact whatsoever on the ROI for some business out there and what the point of commerce and cut-throat sales tactics is…Then it’s lunch hour and all is well. In O-Town I had New York Deli. I’m still missing their egg salad sammiches. With lettuce and tomato on white bread – the perfect balance of mayo, mustard and crunch (I’m hungry now!). Now, by my work in this new city, we have a nearby cafe with Chow Down Alley.

Tuna Melts in Your Mouth

It’s just a hop across Old Saint Augustine Road to get there. Ok, so this place is quick and convenient. You walk up and order and then they bring you your food. It’s reasonably priced and there are TONS of choices. Pick a sandwich. Get rye bread. Pick chips or fries. There’s always a daily special. My fave choice here I wouldn’t want anywhere else – or at any other time. It’s a super strange choice. McMatt introduced me. We always get: Tuna melts. Believe it or not, it’s savory, salty, refreshing and just a teeny bit healthy. Chow Down also has breakfast food, most of which I haven’t tried. Their potatoes aren’t bad, especially when you douse them with hot sauce, which is how I live my life.

I don’t recommend their club sandwich. It’s really basic and not very savory. I’m also partial to hot lunches unless it’s an exceptional egg salad from NY Deli. I really need to explore their menu more.
